5 Years ViennaPhotoBookFestival!

on June 10 and 11, 2017 it’s going to be all about photography at the former Anker Bread Factory.

For its 5th anniversary, the ViennaPhotoBookFestival is moving to new quarters within the area of Brotfabrik Vienna. In the renovated and modernized 1200-m2 Expedithalle, the Festival will take place all on one level for the first time. Through the resulting additional space, the event will be expanded by another pillar: within the framework of the ViennaPhotoPrintMarket, photographers will get the opportunity to present and sell selected prints and editions for up to a maximum retail price of 500 euros.

To celebrate the photobook medium properly, we have compiled a very special program for this anniversary year. We’ve invited Magnum legend Bruce Davidson and the creator of The Photobook: A History and Magnum photographer Martin Parr, we are expecting the photo critics Gerry Badgerand Hans Michael Koetzle, the Russian photographer Nikolay Bakharev, archipelago founder Magali Avezou, the Danish photographer Krass Clement, the Swiss photographer René Groebli, who is celebrating his 90th birthday this year, Australian photobook expert Doug Spowart and photographer and winner of the 2016 ViennaPhotoBookAward Francesca Catastini.

Photobook enthusiasts, collectors, publishers, photobook dealers, photographers and the curious public are warmly invited to celebrate with us – discover new, rare and selfpublished photobooks and prints from all around the world, get them signed and meet renowned photographers at our lectures.

Antwerpen Art Weekend, The Central Periphery 2.0
Zuiderpershuis – Leuvenstraat, Antwerpen, (entrance across M HKA)
20. May 2017

During Antwerp Art Weekend four art institutions from the Province of Antwerp join forces at Zuiderpershuis: de Warande, de Garage, Voorkamer and Frans Masereel Centre. Each of these institutions invited an artist to make a contribution. Floris Vanhoof (by de Warande) gives a performance with a modular synthesizer and four lightbulbs which the artist controls with his own brainwaves. Michael Fliri (by de Garage) screens his performative video ‘I pray I’m a false prophet’. Michael Ballou (by Voorkamer) made a selection of his experimental films of the ‘90’s. Maycec. (by Frans Masereel Centrum), collaborates with Sergej Vutuc, and transforms sound into an object and thereby delivers a durational installation with a paper and audio track.

The proposal is part of a collaborative exploration work between two artists Maycec Cecile and Sergej Vutuc. This installation would be to transform and observe the relation between sound interaction into the space and print, waving between hearing and seeing, through printing and characters of the machine with the idea of being shifted forward and back. This project is in relation with publications and audio tape created and printed in Frans Masereel Centrum.
